Lead YMA Instructional Coach

(Overview)

  • Complete the YMA Instructional Coach workshop
  • Implement the YMA curriculum and instructional plan effectively
  • Maintain a positive and safe learning environment for all YMA filmmakers
  • Use a positive approach to teaching YMA filmmakers the technical skills required for exploring a movie topic, learning camera operation, sound recording, lighting, audio, outlining, storyboarding, film production, and editing as outlined in the YMA curriculum
  • Implement the YMA Instructional Model to design hands-on learning experiences that allow YMA filmmakers to apply their writing, research, critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills to a real-world problem that is unique to their local community
  • Provide frequent feedback to YMA filmmakers on their work, including critiques and suggestions for improvement as well as grading their assignments and assessments
  • Coordinate instructional plans, field trips, and production days with the YMA Executive Management Team and the partner organization
  • Collaborate with industry professionals, including local filmmakers and production companies, to provide your students with real-world insights into the film production industry
  • Mentor students: You will mentor your students, providing guidance and support as they develop their skills and prepare for careers in the film production industry
  • Keep up-to-date with industry trends: You will stay up-to-date with industry trends, new technologies, and emerging techniques in film production to ensure that your curriculum remains relevant and effective
  • Foster creativity in YMA filmmakers, encouraging them to explore their own ideas and develop their unique style as filmmakers
  • Embed efficacy-building strategies into lessons so that YMA filmmakers will have numerous opportunities for mastering skills and seeing their peers master skills
  • Use intentional language to encourage YMA filmmakers whenever possible and create a nurturing environment where they feel safe, supported, and protected
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress, attendance, and grades, as well as other administrative duties required by the YMA Executive Management team

Qualifications:

  • Recommended Minimum Requirement: Associate of Arts Degree or higher
  • Preferred: College credit earned in film and video production
  • Experience in film production
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of film theory and production
  • Knowledge of high-end digital cameras (preferably BlackMagic cameras), lighting, audio engineering, and editing.
  • Ability to work with school-age children in a classroom setting
  • Ability to manage and organize equipment used in the classroom
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations
  • Ability to maintain a positive and safe learning environment for students
  • A background check will be conducted. This background check may include, but is not limited to, criminal history, education verification, and employment history.

Assistant YMA Instructional Coach
(Overview)

  • Assist Lead Instructional Coach with implementing the YMA curriculum and instructional plan with high fidelity
  • Assist in maintaining a positive and safe learning environment for all YMA filmmakers
  • Use a positive approach to teaching YMA filmmakers the technical skills required for exploring a movie topic, learning camera operation, sound recording, lighting, audio, outlining, storyboarding, film production, and editing as outlined in the YMA curriculum
  • Assist Lead Instructional Coach with YMA filmmakers to apply their writing, research, critical thinking, problem-solving, and technical skills to a real-world problem that is unique to their local community

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Some experience in film production is recommended.
  • Experience as a production assistant or production crew member is highly recommended.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills and software used in film production.
  • Ability to manage and organize equipment used in the classroom and on the set.
  • Ability to work with diverse student populations.
  • Ability to maintain a positive and safe learning environment for students.

YMA Assistant Instructional Coach – Intern
(Overview):

The Assistant YMA Instructional Coach Intern will work closely with the Lead YMA Instructional Coach at designated sites to assist in the effective implementation of the YMA curriculum. This internship provides an opportunity to gain hands-on experience in educational film production, mentorship, and instructional design. The intern will support the Lead Coach in creating an engaging learning environment for YMA filmmakers and ensure that all aspects of the curriculum are delivered with high fidelity.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Assist the Lead Instructional Coach in implementing the YMA curriculum, including technical instruction in film production (camera operation, sound recording, lighting, editing, etc.)

 

  • Help maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment for all YMA filmmakers.
  • Support YMA filmmakers as they apply technical and academic skills (writing, research, critical thinking) to local real-world projects.
  • Provide feedback on student work, including constructive critiques and grading support.
  • Assist with planning and executing instructional activities, field trips, and production days, working closely with the YMA Executive Management Team and partner organizations.
  • Mentor YMA filmmakers by encouraging their creativity, personal growth, and professional development.
  • Assist in fostering an environment that promotes self-efficacy by embedding mastery experiences in lessons and using encouraging language to build student confidence.
  • Maintain accurate student records, including attendance, grades, and project progress, as required by the YMA team.
  • Support logistics, including setting up interview schedules and coordinating with the production crew.
  • Other duties as assigned by the YMA Management Team or Lead Instructional Coach.

     

Desired Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent (college students or recent graduates preferred).
  • Interest in or experience with film production, either in a classroom setting or as part of a production team.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Basic knowledge of film production software and equipment management.
  • Experience working with diverse student populations is an advantage.
  • A positive attitude and a passion for teaching and mentoring young filmmakers.
  • Willingness to travel to various job sites and manage a flexible schedule.
  • Completion of the YMA Instructional Coach Workshop (required).
  • Must have access to reliable transportation.
  • Must pass a background check, including criminal history, fingerprint, TB testing, education verification, and employment history.

Senior Production Specialist:

  • 5+ years of experience in film/video production

  • Knowledge of professional grade cameras and equipment (BlackMagic camera is required)

  • Expert level in two or more areas: cameras, lighting, sound, audio, editing.

  • Has own equipment and own transportation

  • Works well with school-age children

  • Works well individually and with teams

  • Knowledge of data transfer and storage

  • Ability to adapt to various situations 

  • Two letters of recommendations

Production Specialist (Lighting):

  • 3+ years of experience in film/video production

  • Knowledge of lighting theory and setups for typical shots

  • Expert level in your area: lighting

  • Has own equipment and own transportation

  • Works well with school-age children

  • Works well individually and with teams

  • Ability to adapt to various situations 

  • Two letters of recommendations

  • Knowledge of sound and techniques for capturing professional audio

  • Expert level in your area: Sound

    • At least one boom microphone and accessories

    • At least four lavalier microphones with accessories

  • Works well with school-age children

  • Works well individually and with teams

  • Ability to adapt to various situations
