Anime and Me -
54th Street Elementary School

Anime storytelling and creative illustration combine to fuel student imagination and artistic expression. Students at 54th Street Elementary explored their passion for anime through a hands-on drawing workshop conducted by artist Shai and a writing workshop led by Dr. McMillan. Together, they created their own unique anime tale called “Nyla and the Mountain Genie,” following a young girl living in Japan who dreams of becoming the fastest runner in her town and seeks help from a mountain genie. When zombies attack the world, Nyla must race up the mountain for the genie’s guidance in this exciting adventure that showcases student creativity and storytelling skills.

This film was created during a film workshop series with Young Moviemakers of America (YMA) during the spring 2025 semester.
