Staying Safe Online is a student-produced documentary that explores the importance of making smart, safe, and responsible choices while using the internet. Through interviews with fellow students, parents, and two police officers, students investigate both the opportunities and the risks of today’s digital world, including social media, online gaming, cyberbullying, digital privacy, and protecting personal information.
Throughout the documentary, students learn practical strategies for staying safe online, recognizing potential dangers, and becoming responsible digital citizens. By combining research with expert advice and real-life perspectives, the film encourages young people to think critically about their online behavior and empowers families to work together in creating safer online experiences.
During production, students gained hands-on experience using professional cameras, lighting, audio equipment, and filmmaking techniques while learning how to conduct interviews, capture compelling visuals, and tell an engaging documentary story.
This film was created during a documentary filmmaking workshop with Young Moviemakers of America (YMA), where students learned professional filmmaking skills while using industry-standard equipment to produce a documentary that educates, informs, and inspires their community.
