Hope for the Unhoused - 61st Street Elementary
School
Homelessness is a pressing social issue affecting communities throughout California. In this thought-provoking documentary film created by students at 61st Street Elementary School in Los Angeles, CA, young filmmakers tackle this complex subject through extensive research and interviews, and share actionable ways for students to volunteer, advocate, and show compassion for those experiencing housing insecurity. The film also provides meaningful resources for parents to help their children develop empathy, understand social justice issues, and find age-appropriate opportunities to make a positive impact in their community.
This film was created during a film workshop series with Young Moviemakers of America (YMA) during the spring 2025 semester.
